Small Boy Running

Carson’s New Music Project

This is the painting I commissioned for the album cover.

It’s based on a real photo of me as a little boy!

Dear Trinity,

A few years ago, I wrote a little book called Wake Up Into My Love, which was about my journey into receiving my identity as a beloved child of God — something we talk about so much here at Trinity. Many of you helped bring this book into the world, for which I am so grateful!

I wanted to share with you my current creative project, which is a kind of follow-up to that book. My son who I wrote about in that book is now a little boy. And as I’ve observed this season in his life, it has led me back into a familiar, yet exciting space: writing music

These songs are exploring one simple question: What’s keeping me from running free, like my son does so naturally?

Exciting news… Jon Guerra (who I played a concert with at our church back in February) is going to be producing this album!

The 5-song EP will be called Small Boy Running.  And the Kickstarter campaign has just 9 days left. (Kickstarter is a platform where creative projects like mine get funded.)

Trinity… we’ve seen each other grow so much throughout the last 6 1/2 years. This album is a mile-marker for what God is up to in my life during this season… He’s bringing me into the lightness of joy!

With anticipation of the glorious freedom of the children of God,

Carson+

p.s. - I believe that music is a healing force. My hope is that these songs would do for others what they’ve been doing for me, which is to free me up to RUN. If you pledge by this Sunday, I am giving away an e-book that I wrote 9 years ago on creativity, called “The Starsmith.”

Solitude and Sabbath 101 Retreat

Trinity brothers and sisters,

Please join me November 15-17 at Ingalls Creek for a Solitude and Sabbath 101 Retreat. This is our second-annual retreat at Ingalls. This year, we will focus again on Solitude, but also on Sabbath. And the emphasis will be on the “101” aspect!

If you yearn to have an introduction (or a reconnection) to these life-giving practices, please come. The early-bird pricing is $90 and covers all meals and lodging. (The price increases on 11/1 to $110.)

Please join us in community at Ingalls Creek this November for a weekend of coming home to ourselves in Christ. As God says through Isaiah:

Let us walk more deeply through Solitude and Sabbath into our salvation.

Blessings,

Guy Evans

Parent Talks - Playing is Praying

Saturday, November 2 // 9-11am

Parent Talks - Playing is Praying

November 2nd

9:00 am - 11:00 am

Childcare and Refreshments provided.

We will spend the morning learning about and experiencing our first Spiritual Language - Play! I am so excited to share some new research around children’s life with God and how it relates to Jesus’ controversial declaration that we must become like children to enter God’s kingdom. Does God really want to play with His children?

We will cover:

God’s story of play.

What is play?

What play is not.

What gets in the way of play?

Why playing is praying.

Come ready to listen, reflect, wonder and play together. Ages 10+ are welcome to attend the talk. Childcare is provided for ages 1-9 yrs.

George MacDonald Book Club

October 27 // 6:30pm

Trinity Church Office

Hello Trinity,

The next meeting for the George MacDonald book, At the Back of the North Wind is on October 27th at 6:30.  We will be meeting together in the Trinity Church office.

If you haven't started reading At the Back of the North Wind yet, you still have time...it isn't too late!  Remember Jesus' parable of the day laborers in Matthew 20; you will be just as richly rewarded for reading North Wind at the 11th hour as those who started at the beginning of the day.

For those of you who have started or completed At the Back of the North Wind, be sure to jot down anything that has stuck with you or has made you ponder something you hadn't pondered before.

Edition recommendations - below are a couple good editions (double-check on shipping speed if you haven't ordered yet...) of At the Back of the North Wind and a great audio dramatization by Focus on the Family (this would be great for kids):

  • Wise Path Books - Cullen Collection edition, includes a great introduction by Michael Phillips

  • The Room to Roam - This edition has illustrations and large font plus an introduction by Douglas Gresham

  • Focus on the Family Radio Theatre - a dramatized and abridged audio production, available as a digital download and on CD.
