Last Sunday: Hanging Lights: The picture above shows the lights our Trinity Youth hung at Wenatchee Rescue Mission last Sunday. We thanked God for the light He continues to bring into the dark places in our lives and for the invitation He gives us to participate with Him in bringing His light into other dark and forgotten places.
Welcome to Advent, Trinity Church,
Here we are. Advent is a season of waiting, watching, and expectation for the coming of our King. One way we can practice waiting is by almsgiving, which helps us remember that our joy is found in Jesus, not in the stuff we accumulate. While the world is ramping up purchases, we may strategically choose to hold back so that we can give more. And I wonder, if we do this, could it be that we find Jesus in ways and places we don’t expect?
Here are some ways to practice Almsgiving this Advent:
December 8, 15, 22: Bring a Mug & Write a Note: For the next three Sundays, we will be collecting mugs for our neighbors at WRM. The hope is to collect 200 beautifully diverse new or like-new mugs (picked out and brought by all of us) to gift to our beautifully diverse neighbors, so that they can enjoy warm drinks during cold months. Find the table for mugs and note-writing downstairs after the service.
From now until Dec 23rd: Floors & Laundry: We are also collecting donations to our Parish fund so that WRM might be able to complete their dining room floor and/or purchase two sets of coin-operated washers and dryers. Each of these projects costs roughly $6K and will give our neighbors opportunities to live with a little more dignity.
December 23rd 5:30pm: Come to the party! We will gather with our neighbors who need God’s light as much as we do. We will enjoy a meal, hear some stories, play some games, and celebrate gifts - Jesus being the greatest one. Anyone want to play some Christmas music for the party? Please contact Nicole.
Actively waiting for our King with you,
Nicole
Saint Nicholas Day Celebration
This Sunday we will celebrate Saint Nicholas! The children will participate in a play about his life during the 10am service. After the service there will be cookie decorating in the Fellowship Hall downstairs. This article on The Anglican Compass is a beautiful description of Saint Nicholas and how and why celebrate him and his devotion to the Lord. Look for more resources on the back table in the Narthex.
Advent Traditions Talk
December 8 @ 6:30pm at the Canlis Home
Adults are invited to the Canlis Home (3385 Number 1 Canyon Road - top of the canyon on the left) for an "Advent Traditions" talk & swap, from 6:30-8pm this Sunday (Dec 8). I've been exploring traditions, attempting some, editing or dropping others for years - and I thought it would be fun to explore some of these with you. I also know many of you have some wonderful established traditions. So my hope is to use this time to share some of our fun traditions with you, and also provide an open space for you to share the history that you have built up for yourselves. The goal is not to do them ALL, but to do whichever ones feel that are manageable for your family!
Also, remember my last post where I was with the bishop of London at Lambeth Palace (the home of the archbishop of Canterbury) just before the election here in the USA? He's written a brief post on visiting the USA just after the election, and I think it is interesting to see a non-USA perspective of our country. (And I also think Trinity Church is one of those rare 'purple' churches that he refers to)
